DIGIDEV
This research critiques the binary perspective that slow technology often utilizes to articulate critique on the speed of our society. This research explores a more nuanced temporal strategy through a research through design approach. A first person inquiry is done into photography as a paradigmatic case for everyday technology. By juxtaposing analog and phone photography, the project analyses the flattening of the temporal relation, a loss of duration and presence in interaction.
Insights from this inquiry were translated into Digidev, a research product that reintroduces the developing process into contemporary phone photography. Digidev does not enforce to slow down, it invites the user to linger, reflect and be attuned to the developing process.
Rather than rejecting technical progress, it proposes a more nuanced strategy to unflatten the temporal relation with everyday technology.
